Three Arrested In Assam's Chirang For Hunting Wildlife And Posting On Social Media

GUWAHATI: The Kajalgaon Police apprehended three individuals from Baikhungaon village in Chirang district on Saturday, December 28 following allegations of hunting and posting their act on social media.

Acting on inputs from the STF, Kajalgaon Police detained Dipankar Basumatary, son of Khagen Basumatary; Swmdwm Basumatary, son of Maniram Basumatary; and Bilipang Basumatary, son of Manoj Basumatary, all residents of Baikhungaon.

During the investigation, the police recovered an air gun (CAL4.0177, Serial No. BA05) and air gun ammunition from their possession. Upon interrogation, Dipankar Basumatary admitted to using traps to kill a civet at the house of co-accused Bilipang Basumatary. 

The seized weapon and the accused have been handed over to the Forest Department, Kajalgaon, for further legal action under applicable wildlife protection laws.
