Third tallest National Flag graces Guwahati sky this Gandhi Jayanti

GUWAHATI: On the eve of Gandhi Jayanti, Chief Minister Sarbananda Sonowal hoisted India’s 3rd tallest national flag and offered tribute to Mahatma Gandhi on his 150th birth anniversary.

It is touted to be one of the tallest National Flags in the country if measured from Mean Sea Level.

The national flag atop a 319.5-feet mast made of galvanized steel on Sarania hills near Gandhi Mandap was earlier proposed to be unfurled on the occasion of the country’s 72nd Independence Day.

The Assam Government has spent Rs 2.58 Crore to set up the high-mast National Flag in Guwahati as part of the Smart City project at Gandhi Mandap on Sarania Hilltop.

The project was under Guwahati Smart City Ltd, in association with Guwahati Metropolitan Development Authority, PMG, Tata Engineering Service, and Bajaj Electricals.

With a flag size of 120′ X 80′, the flagpole is expected to serve as an additional landmark and a tourist spot for people visiting Guwahati.
