Thief Jumps Into Filthy Bharalu River To Escape Mob Attack

GUWAHATI: A thief jumped into the dirty Bharalu River in the Tarun Nagar area of Guwahati on Wednesday to escape from a mob attack.

Local residents of Tarun Nagar told G Plus that a youth, about 20 to 22 years of age was caught red-handed while trying to steal from a house in the locality.

Fearing an attack by the local residents, the youths managed to give slip to the people who had caught him and started running towards the Bharalu River.

As the local residents continued to give a hot chase, the thief jumped into the Bharalu River and managed to swim to the middle.

Knowing well that no local resident would try to jump into the dirty river to catch him, the thief continued to wait in the middle of the Bharalu River.

The local residents informed Bhangagarh Police about the incident. And later, police took custody of the thief.

It was reported that the thief was identified by a local resident whose bike was stolen just a month ago.

While speaking to G Plus, the Officer-in-Charge of Bhangagarh Police Station said that the thief has been sent to the Gauhati Medical College and Hospital (GMCH) for medical treatment.

The police official informed G Plus that since no FIRs have been filed against the suspect, he will be released after his treatment.
