GUWAHATI: Tezpur University is set to launch a new Department of Defence Studies. The university's Academic Council and Board of Management have officially approved this initiative, marking a significant step towards enhancing national security education.
During a recent meeting with Defence Minister Rajnath Singh, Prof Shambhu Nath Singh, Vice Chancellor of Tezpur University, emphasized the strategic importance of having a Defence Studies Department in close proximity to China. The Defence Minister commended the university's initiative and guaranteed full support from the Ministry of Defence.
The upcoming Department of Defence Studies will collaborate with experts, defence establishments, and policymakers to establish a booming academic ecosystem in the field of defence studies. The department will offer a range of programs aimed at nurturing a holistic understanding of national security matters.
Tezpur University, located near the Indian Army's IV Corps and Defence Research Laboratory, recognizes the need to provide a comprehensive education in defence policy, strategic studies, military history, conflict resolution, and intelligence analysis.
Tezpur University already offers Chinese language courses to Indian Army personnel through a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the Indian Army.
