GUWAHATI: The Indian Institute of Technology Guwahati (IIT Guwahati) successfully concluded a comprehensive 6-day Residential Teachers' Training programme aimed at educators from government and government-provincialised schools across Assam.
The program focused on Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics (STEM), and witnessed the participation of 1000 teachers from November 30 to December 5, 2023.
The valedictory ceremony, held on December 5, 2023, was graced by the presence of Assam Education Minister Ranoj Pegu, along with esteemed dignitaries including Sanjoy Dutta, ACS, Executive Director, SSA, Prof. Parameswar K. Iyer, Dean, PRBR, and Prof. A. S. Achalkumar, Dean, OEP, IIT Guwahati.
Pegu, while addressing the gathering, expressed the programme's purpose of motivating students to pursue Science and Mathematics in higher education. He also acknowledged IIT Guwahati's support on various education-related projects and initiatives in the state.
Prof. Iyer highlighted the institute's collaboration with the Education Department of Assam to enhance STEM education's quality. The collaboration includes teacher training, conceptual learning tools development, classroom methodologies, and exposure opportunities for students through lab visits and hands-on learning.
The event marked the launch of the Mind in Training for Right Awareness (MITRA) Project by the Assam Government. The residential programme aimed to revamp teaching pedagogy and elevate STEM education quality in Assam's schools. Teachers received training in diverse subjects such as Physics, Electronics, Coding, Robotics, Artificial Intelligence, Biology, Biotechnology, Chemistry, Materials Science, Mental Wellness, Mindfulness, and 3D Printing. The training also equipped teachers with the skills to operate tinkering labs in the state.
The event marked the launch of the Mind in Training for Right Awareness (MITRA) Project by the Assam Government. Teachers from 13 districts across Assam participated in the programme.
