GUWAHATI: Chandmari Police in Guwahati arrested a woman on Monday, April 28, for allegedly duping multiple individuals by offering fake investment opportunities and loans. The accused, identified as Kabita Baishya, was apprehended during a raid at Bamunimaidam.
According to police, Baishya is accused of collecting crores of rupees from people by promising high returns and financial aid. The operation led to the seizure of several documents, including cheques amounting to approximately ₹5 crore issued in the names of various individuals, along with multiple contract agreements and other papers linked to several victims.
The investigation began after a complaint was filed by a victim who reportedly received no returns after investing. The complaint triggered a probe that led to Baishya’s arrest. The case will be forwarded to court on Tuesday, April 29.
“A woman has been arrested during a raid in Bamunimaidam for allegedly duping people under the pretext of offering investment schemes and loans. Several documents, including cheques, have been seized. The case is being forwarded to court and further investigation is ongoing,” an official from Chandmari police station said to GPlus.
The investigation is still underway.
