The case began on April 28 when Handrajit Rajbongshi of a transport agency lodged an FIR at Basistha Police Station. He had hired a six-wheeler vehicle (AS 13 AC 5860) through a broker to transport goods from Nalapara to Shribhumi in Karimganj. Soon after dispatch, the driver, broker, and vehicle owner went unreachable, prompting suspicions of a planned theft.

Within 24 hours, police located the abandoned vehicle near NH at Sonapur, but the cargo was missing. Investigators then apprehended Abdus Salam (32), the vehicle owner from Barpeta. During interrogation, Salam admitted his role in the incident.

Acting on his leads, police arrested Rahim Badshah (43) from Satlabari under Hajo PS and recovered nearly 8 tonnes of Dyna roof tin sheets, cartons of Rajnigandha, Tulsi, Shikaar brand products, loose cotton sacks, and paper cups from his possession.

Further questioning led to the arrest of Innus Ali (28) from Salmari Sar. Based on his confession, a search at a godown in Bangalpara under Hajo PS yielded more stolen items, including cartons of incense sticks, tissue rolls, paper cups, buckets, and gutka products.

Basistha PS has registered the case under sections 61(2)/316(3) of the BNS, and further investigation is ongoing.
