Tax Worth Over ₹84 crores Yet To Be Paid By Guwahatians

GUWAHATI: A startling revelation has come to light wherein tax worth over ₹84 crores are yet to be paid by the residents of Guwahati.

Citizens who have not settled their taxes are urged to do so by January 31, as defaulters will face an additional 10% penalty if payments are not made before March 31.

GMC Mayor Mrigen Sarania, while talking to GPlus, highlighted the absence of rebates this time, emphasizing the importance of timely payments.

"In the past, we have given rebates of 10% to 50% to those who missed property tax payments," Mayor Sarania informed GPlus.

He urged citizens with overdue taxes spanning multiple years to clear their dues by the end of January.

Failure to comply may lead to property seizures and subsequent actions, including the revocation of holding numbers, potentially affecting electricity connections.

Acknowledging a lower tax collection this year compared to the previous one, Mayor Sarania revealed that out of a total of 2,56,000 holding numbers in Guwahati, ₹84 crores in total (including all taxes) are yet to be recovered so far.
