GUWAHATI: The Tatas have plans to install 5GW of renewable energy in Assam over the next five years besides strengthening sustainable development. This was stated by N Chandrasekaran, Chairman of Tata Sons, at the Advantage Assam 2.0 summit underway in Guwahati, on Tuesday, February 25.

The company also aims to invest in another large-scale manufacturing technology venture, expected to generate employment opportunities for 30,000 youths in the region. Tata Electronics will be collaborating with skilling industries to empower young professionals and enhance their employability in emerging sectors to support workforce development.
Meanwhile Assam is set to become a key player in the global semiconductor ecosystem with the launch of the Tata Semiconductor facility at Jagiroad and which is expected to commence production by end of this year.
The Tata Group has long maintained a strong presence in Assam, employing over 55,000 people across various sectors which has also played a pivotal role in the healthcare sector, being associated with a network of 17 cancer hospitals in the state. Additionally, the group’s consumer company operates 21 tea estates and 20 tea manufacturing and packaging factories.
The summit is being attended by Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Union ministers, delegates from several countries and industry leaders among others.
The summit will conclude tomorrow.
