Tallest National Flag in Guwahati suffers minor tear; Week-long repair underway

GUWAHATI: The Indian National Flag, which was installed at Gandhi Mandap, Guwahati has suffered a tear due to high wind pressure. Guwahati Smart City Limited authorities (GSCL) have initiated necessary corrective measures and immediately informed M/S Bajaj Electricals Limited, who are the contractors for the installation and maintenance of this project.

A local team is attending to the issue and considering the sheer size of the flag, it requires work under expert supervision. The flag, which has dimensions of 120 X 80 feet, and weighs approximately half a ton, requires careful handling, for which a team of experts from M/S Bajaj Electricals Limited, are on their way to Assam to complete necessary repair work.

M/S Bajaj Electricals Limited will immediately take up necessary maintenance work of the pole and its components, which also includes repainting of the pole.
GSCL had previously acquired 10 numbers of spare flags for such unforeseen natural circumstances.

Corrective maintenance work is tentatively scheduled to finish within a weeks’ time.

The flagpole and the structure continue to be completely safe.

It is to be noted that the 319.5 ft Flag Pole, which is the highest in the country with respect to the average elevation of the city, was commissioned earlier this year. Considering only the height of the Flag Pole, it is ranked 3rd highest in the country.
