Swelling Brahmaputra Submerges Lord Vishnu Statue at Guwahati’s Chakreshwar Temple

GUWAHATI: The Lord Vishnu statue at the famous Chakreshwar Temple in Kalipur, where the vertical pillar in the river indicates the height of the water, has been almost submerged by the dangerously swelling Brahmaputra River.

The water level of the river Brahmaputra continues to rise following incessant rains all across the state of Assam. The river is now at a height of 50.75 cms as per the District Disaster Management Authority’s (DDMA) Report this morning.

It is noteworthy that the part of the Brahmaputra which flows through Guwahati has already been flowing above the danger mark and is rising by the minute.

The Inland Water Transport department has already indefinitely suspended ferry services between Guwahati and North Guwahati owing to the increasing water level in the Brahmaputra.
