GUWAHATI: Sushmita Goswami was elected the first female President of the Guwahati Press Club on June 4. The new executive body of the Guwahati Press Club (GPC) was elected on June 4, Sunday, elections for which were held on June 3, Saturday.
Sanjoy Ray emerged victorious as the General Secretary for the second time in a row.
The newly elected executive body also includes Jatin Bhagawati as the Vice President; Aloka Boruah as Vice President (reserved for women); Dilwar Hussain Mozumder as the Assistant General Secretary; Mitali Konwar as Assistant General Secretary (Reserved); Kishore Jyoti Sarma as the Organising Secretary; Manindra Deka as Treasurer; Pallabi Bora as Cultural Secretary and Azad Gogoi as the Sports Secretary.
"As a new committee, we have a lot of things to do and I hope we can achieve a majority of our goals in the next two years," said Sushmita Goswami while speaking to G Plus.
"Primarily, there is a need to revive the membership rule. We have to find ways of including more and new people," she said.

"We have to make the press club more dynamic and for doing that, we need to include dynamic and new blood in the press club," she added.
When asked to share her thoughts on becoming the first female President of GPC, Goswami said, "Being male or a female is just a gender. The aim is to work towards having a vibrant press club. We have four women on this committee. I hope we can inspire more and more girls to come forward and join journalism."
She also informed G Plus that the new executive body would try and introduce a health insurance policy for the journalists and their families.
"Introducing a health insurance policy for the members is our immediate priority. We believe that a health insurance policy for the journalists is an urgent necessity," she added.
