This match will be the centre of attention as India will aim to break their goal drought in the return leg of the 2026 FIFA World Cup Qualifier against Afghanistan in Guwahati today.

After a goalless draw in the away leg against Afghanistan, India's struggles in front of the goal have persisted, with their last goal scored in November 2023 against Kuwait.

Chhetri, with 93 goals in 149 international caps till now, holds the key to India's hopes of securing a victory and enhancing their chances of progressing to the third round of World Cup qualifications.

As per reports, the Coach Igor Stimac emphasises the importance of qualification to the third round of World Cup Qualifiers and securing a direct entry into the 2027 AFC Asian Cup.

With India currently standing second in the group, Stimac urges his players to exhibit more desperation, composure, and urgency in their attacking play.

India now require at least four points from their upcoming fixtures against Afghanistan, Kuwait, and Qatar to remain in contention.

Stimac hopes Chhetri can mark his milestone match with a performance worthy of his stature in Indian football.

The match against Afghanistan holds significance for India, as they return to Guwahati after five years, aiming to rectify their previous defeat against Oman.
