GUWAHATI: A two-day block-level training program on the introduction of Jolly Phonics in Class 1 has concluded in Kamrup Metro. The non-residential training involved 200 teachers from 200 Government and Provincialized schools in the region. The second phase of training, conducted on January 24th and 25th, 2024, marked a crucial step in the ongoing implementation of Jolly Phonics.
This initiative, a collaboration between the Jolly Learning Foundation and Samagra Shiksha Assam, targeted 400 schools across Kamrup Metro and Rural districts. The project, initially piloted in six Government schools in 2022 under the guidance of Shri Ramesh Chandra Jain, Chairman of SEBA, has gained momentum and acclaim for its positive impact on students.
Retired IAS Officer and founder of the Manas Saikia Foundation, Swapnanil Baruah, played a pivotal role in the training sessions, bringing his experience and association with Jolly Learning Ltd UK to benefit the teachers. The teachers, who had previously undergone training in Phase 1 from August 7th to 10th, 2023, showcased their commitment to the program.
The recent survey conducted by the Kamrup Metro District revealed encouraging results, with teachers reporting notable improvements in children's pronunciation and verbal skills after implementing Jolly Phonics in the classroom. The positive feedback from teachers underscores the significance of Jolly Phonics in oral language development, a crucial aspect of Foundational Literacy and Numeracy (FLN).
On the second day of the training session, Swapnanil Baruah addressed the teachers, emphasizing the importance of English language proficiency in the global context. He commended the teachers for their role in the Jolly Phonics rollout project, highlighting their responsibility as role models for educators across all 31 districts of Assam.
Komal Goenka, Head Trainer of Jolly Phonics, and Dipti Shah led the training for both phases in the Kamrup Metro district. Daijee Kalita, State Consultant for FLN, stressed the significance of Jolly Phonics on the first day of training, reinforcing its role in foundational education.
Under the guidance of Reboti Mohan Kakati, State Programme Officer for Samagra Shiksha Assam, the project gained momentum in Kamrup Metro and Kamrup Rural districts. Tapashi Sarma, DPO, TT & P, Samagra Shiksha, along with Sneha Verma, District Consultant for FLN, and Hirakjyoti Nath, Data Analyst for FLN, provided crucial assistance, support, and coordination throughout the training program.
