Student Stripped Naked During Ragging At NEHU Tura Campus

GUWAHATI: A ragging case has recently come to light at the Arbella Hostel, located on the Tura campus of North-Eastern Hill University (NEHU) in Meghalaya. The victim, a student hailing from Nagaland who had just embarked on his Master's degree journey in Agri-Business Management and Food Technology at NEHU, was subjected to torment by his senior counterparts on October 8.

The incident unfolded on the very day he arrived at the hostel, with senior students entering his dormitory at Arbella Hostel and coercively escorting him to an unoccupied room. To shield their identities, the seniors repeatedly flashed bright lights into the victim's face. It was in this room that the shocking demand was made for him to "entertain" them by performing a "naked dance.”

In response to the distressing incident, an NEHU Tura official told GPlus that they became aware of the situation through the victim's relatives and took steps to investigate, actively reaching out to students for information. "We tried to contact the victim numerous times online and offline to book the culprits,” the NEHU Tura official told GPlus.

"We did as much investigation as we could. But we could not find the culprits because a lot more communication is required to identify," the official continued. "There is complete cooperation with the hostellers,” the official further added.

"Now the case has been handed over to the police station. They are investigating," the NEHU official told GPlus.

The victim has filed an FIR and has gone back to Nagaland. Speaking to GPlus, a senior police official from Tura confirmed, "We have received an FIR through email from Nagaland."

Further investigation is underway.
