Student Commits Suicide after Fearing Expulsion for Cheating in HSLC Exams

GUWAHATI: A female student from Assam's Barpeta district commited suicide after she was expelled for cheating during the ongoing HSLC examination.

The decreased, Lipika Parbin, who was a resident of Barbhitha-Padmapara village under Tarabari PS, died in Guwahati after consuming pesticides.

Parbin was expelled from the Bohori High School examination centre for allegedly adopting unfair means during the arabic paper on 13 February.

On 14 Feb she consumed pesticide fearing a three years ban and was taken to the primary health centre at Chenga in Barpeta, from where she was shifted to Guwahati, as her condition deteriorated.

However, Sajida Khatun, the supervising  officer of the centre, informed media that as the candidate was caught for cheating after almost one and half hour after commencement of the paper, it was decided to punish her under 'time expel' rule by which she was barred from writing the paper for only that day and would not have been expelled for three years.
