GUWAHATI: Guwahati residents are questioning the efficiency of the city's streetlight management as streetlights on the Zoo Road flyover remain lit during the daytime. This not only raises serious concerns about unnecessary energy consumption but also highlights discrepancies in the city's streetlight functionality.

Speaking to GPlus, a daily commuter on Zoo Road said, "In Hatigaon, many of our streetlights don’t work at all, especially in some lanes. But here, we see streetlights burning in broad daylight."
Talking to GPlus, Diganta Das, a resident of Hatigaon said, "Lanes like Ajanta Path and Naharani Path have non-functional streetlights for weeks. On the other hand, streetlights on GS Road are unnecessarily left on during the day. It’s a complete mismanagement of resources."
Residents have long complained about non-functional streetlights in several areas of the city, which pose risks to commuters and pedestrians at night. Now, the sight of streetlights staying on during daylight hours has added to the growing discontent.
When asked about the issue, a senior official from Guwahati Utilities Company Limited (GUCL) told GPlus, "The lights were switched on due to ongoing maintenance work. We will look into this matter immediately to ensure it’s addressed."
