GUWAHATI: The Special Task Force (STF) of Assam seized ₹6.87 lakh in Fake Indian currency notes (FICN) and dismantled a printing operation in Khanapara on Wednesday, November 13.

The operation led to the arrest of two suspects, identified as Md. Sahil Ali (21) from Kamrup, and Harsh Wahlang (20) from Ri Bhoi, Meghalaya.
Following a tip-off about a transaction involving fake currency notes, officers promptly arrived at Khanapara to intercept the suspects, who, upon spotting the police, attempted to flee in a four wheeler. After a brief chase, the police successfully detained the suspects on the Kainadhara-APSC road under Dispur Police Station’s jurisdiction.
Upon conducting an initial search of the vehicle, officers recovered fake currency notes amounting to ₹3.7 lakh, all in ₹500 denominations, along with a mobile phone. Following their arrest, the suspects led the police to a rented house in 9th Mile, Baridua, where they uncovered an additional ₹3.17 lakh in fake currency.
The raid also yielded a printing machine used to produce the counterfeit currency, along with multiple bundles of paper cut to the size of ₹500 notes and other materials necessary for the counterfeiting process.
Both suspects are currently in police custody as officials continue to proceed with the necessary legal formalities.
