Steep Hike Effected on Fuel Prices in Assam, Diesel, Petrol Go up by Rs 5

GUWAHATI: The Assam government has decided to increase the fuel prices in the state by Rs. 5 per litre.

The new prices will come into effect from today, April 22.

As per reports, now a litre of petrol will cost Rs. 77.46 while diesel will be at Rs. 70.50 per litre.

The government notification stated, "Assam VAT for diesel has been fixed at 23.66 paise in the rupee or Rs 17.45 per litre, whichever is higher, and the tax for petrol and other motor spirits at 32.66 paise in the rupee or Rs 22.63 per lire, whichever is higher".

Earlier, Assam State Finance Minister Himanata Biswa Sarma had hinted that at some point of time, the state may raise taxes on petrol and diesel.
