Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma has directed the CEO of Guwahati Metropolitan Development Authority (GMDA) to identify a prominent location within the city for the statue’s installation.
As per official instructions, GMDA will also collaborate closely with Upadhyaya’s family members to ensure the project reflects their views and honours his legacy appropriately.
Once the site and design are finalised, work on the statue’s installation will commence promptly. It aims to serve as a tribute to Upadhyaya's enduring contributions to Assam’s social and political landscape, especially for the Gorkhas.
