GUWAHATI: The Special Task Force of Assam intercepted a truck carrying a large consignment of illegal narcotics, following a tip-off about a major trafficking operation on Friday, November 8. The vehicle, registered as NL 07-AA-1919, was en route from Manipur via Haflong to a district in lower Assam.

The operation led to the arrest of three individuals: Md Kamal Hassan, the driver; Saddam, his assistant; and Md Arif Khan, the alleged kingpin and younger brother of veteran drug peddler Md Boboi Ahmed. Arif Khan had flown in from Silchar the previous day and was staying at Bobby Lodge in Basistha, where he was reportedly waiting to collect the payment for the narcotics.
During the early morning raid, the truck was intercepted at Amingaon, and a thorough search uncovered 49 packets of ganja, weighing 16.2 kilograms, hidden inside the spare wheel of the vehicle. Police also found 22 soap packets containing heroin, weighing 286 grams, concealed in compartments above the driver's seat.
The seized narcotics, along with the truck, were confiscated, and the three suspects were taken into custody. Legal proceedings are underway.
