“This innovative step will be helpful in faster and more efficient cleaning of hard to reach areas,” the NFR posted on X.

The drone operation was carried out across several critical and hard-to-reach locations, including the Kamakhya Coaching Depot Sick Line, the Underfloor Wheel Lathe Shed, the station's exterior dome, and select train coaches. According to officials, the drone was deployed to clean areas that typically pose challenges for manual labour due to their elevation or structural complexity.

The demonstration aimed to evaluate the feasibility of using drones for sanitation purposes in railway premises, as officials noted that the successful trial could lead to the broader adoption of drone technology across major stations under the NFR zone.

The initiative also aligns with Indian Railways’ larger mission to modernise infrastructure through smart and sustainable solutions. By reducing human exposure to hazardous cleaning zones, drone-based operations also promote safer working conditions for railway personnel.
