GUWAHATI: Security has been tightened at Lachit Ghat and surrounding riverfronts as Chhath Puja celebrations began today.

The Sashastra Seema Bal (SSB) has deployed its dog squad, in collaboration with Assam Police, to conduct intensive checks for explosives and ensure the safety of thousands of devotees gathering along the ghats.
With additional support from the Rangia dog squad, SSB personnel patrolled the area, focusing on detecting any potential threats.
On Wednesday, the Assam Police’s dog squad and bomb disposal team carried out a preliminary operation, scanning the area for any potential explosives. The SSB squad has since taken over, conducting thorough sweeps in search of suspicious objects to ensure a secure environment for devotees.
