Sports Ministry To Set Up NCE In Guwahati To Help Athletes Qualify For 2024 & 2028 Olympics

GUWAHATI: The Sports Ministry will set up a National Centres of Excellence (NCE) in Guwahati to provide special training to selected athletes to help them qualify for the 2024 and 2028 Olympic games. 

Based on reports, the sports institutes which will be identified as NCEs and will be able to provide the same level of training as elite athletes get. 

Athletes who will be training at these NCEs will all follow a single method that has been specifically designed for them. It is an initiative to improve the athletes’ performance and give special focus to training each and every individual.

However, it should be noted that grassroots level athletes will be trained in NCE excluded sports institutes and will be transferred to accredited NCEs only on the basis of their performance. 

It should be mentioned that the Sports Authority of India (SAI) institue has been designed as an NCE. 

A total of 20 such NCEs will be set up in places such as Imphal, Patiala, Trivandrum, Chandigarh, Sonepat, Lucknow, Kolkata, Bhopal, Bengaluru, Mumbai, Gandhinagar, Delhi, Alleppey, Rohtak and Aurangabad.
