Assam: People in this Kamrup Village Want to Merge with Meghalaya

GUWAHATI: The people residing in a few South Kamrup villages have contemplated merging with the state of Meghalaya.

The people under Palasbari constituency, which include Gorubondha, Besimari, Dewanbeel, Borgorang, Bangeliila, Kotrabari, Shantibeel, etc, have raised the issue of government negligence in the development of the aforementioned areas.

The locals claim a lack of accessing education, electricity, and drinking water facilities by successive governments even after 74 years of Independence. They also reveal encroachment by Meghalaya in the state border areas.

As such, the villagers have raised anti-government slogans as well as protested against their local MLA Pranab Kalita of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) out of frustration.

G Plus contacted local MLA Pranab Kalita who was unavailable to respond.
