GUWAHATI: The elevated south bank of the Guwahati-North Guwahati bridge was inaugurated on March 4.

The bridge was inaugurated by Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma at 6 PM.

Built with a budget of ₹326 crore, the arm is set to ease connectivity between Bhootnath to Machkhowa and vice versa by diverting the traffic over the river.
The Assam Chief Minister laid the foundation of several projects in the city yesterday and inaugurated the Elevated South Bank Corridor of the Guwahati-North Guwahati Bridge, which features a tree-lane flyover with two rotaries and first-of-its-kind special noise barriers which have been installed to control noise pollution in the corridor of 1.2 km length with 15.2 m width from Bhoothnath to Machkhowa. The inauguration was also attended by Guwahati Mayor Mrigen Sarania and Urban Affairs Minister Ashok Singhal.
CM Sarma said that with the inauguration of the portion of the elevated corridor, traffic congestion near Bharalumukh would be reduced to a great extent. He also said that the corridor will enhance the cityscape by the river and reinforce the river bank. He said that once fully completed the entire stretch of the Guwahati-North Guwahati bridge over the Brahmaputra will be dedicated to the nation, by Prime Minister Narendra Modi in the month of December this year.
The Chief Minister also said that with the inauguration of the elevated corridor, commuters coming from Adabari areas and going to Kachar Ghat can directly take the elevated corridor bypassing Bharalumukh.
