GUWAHATI: News circulated this evening about the passing away of Nipon Goswami, Assamese cine star and actor par excellence.
Goswami's son, Siddharth, however clarified through a Facebook update that the news was fake and his father was hale and hearty post a minor hip surgery.

Goswami is an Assamese film actor and theatre artist. He has been actively involved in mobile theatre, notably with groups like Abaahan, Kohinoor, Hengool, and Shakuntala. He has also acted in a large number of TV serials and his most notable performance was is "Writu Aahe Writu Jaai" which also had Moloya Goswami as his main co-star. Sangram was his first Assamese film in the year 1968.
