Social Welfare Department to Implement Indecent Representation of Women (Prohibition) Act in the State

The Social Welfare Department, Govt. of Assam has stressed on implementing the Act “The Indecent Representation of Women (Prohibition) Act, 1986” in the State as per desired by the Govt. of India, Ministry of Women & Child Development, New Delhi. The Act was enacted on 23rd December 1986 with the specific objective of prohibiting the indecent representation of women through advertisement, publication, writing and painting or in any other manner. It defines “indecent representation of women” to mean the depiction of the figure/form/body/any part thereof, of a woman which is indecent or derogatory to or denigrating women or is likely to injure public morality. The implementation of this act will prohibit such representation in any form in any advertisement, publication, etc and also prohibits selling, distribution, circulation of any books, pamphlets, and such other material containing indecent representation of women. Added to this, it also prescribes punishment of either description for a term extending to two years and fine extending to two thousand rupees on first conviction for all offences under the Act.      (Image: www.zappadu.com)
