GUWAHATI: A RCC drain, Sump and Sluice Gate was inaugurated at Bhaskar Nagar area, Guwahati. The ceremony was graced by Siddhartha Bhattacharya, Minister of Education, GDD and Law and Justice Department along with Monalisa Goswami, Commissioner of GMC.

The water will flow from inner drain of Bhaskar Nagar area to Mother Teresa Road and from R.G Baruah Road, the water shall finally get dumped into Bharalu River. During heavy rainfall, the inner drain would be cleaned by closing the newly constructed sluice gate and entire water would be thrown out by pumping. The main motive behind the construction of this drain is to mitigate the water logging problem in the Bhaskar Nagar area. This construction shall help almost 1000 families of the area from flood issue, which is a major concern. The length of the drain is 480 metres and width 2metres in size.

Also, a workshop was conducted recently with the kids of Shemrock Prachee, a pre-school where they were taught proper disposal of dry and wet waste through various activities. Almost 70 students of aged 3-7 participated in the workshop. The workshop was presided over by Monalisa Goswami - Commissioner of GMC along with other officials.
