Silchar Named Among Top Three Least Polluted Cities In India On Diwali

GUWAHATI: A recent survey conducted by the Central Pollution Control Board across 243 cities in the country revealed that Silchar is one of only three cities with a commendable air quality index during Diwali.

This distinction places Silchar alongside Ooty in Tamil Nadu with an AQI of 36. The only city preceding Silchar is Aizawl with an AQI of 29.

The survey specifically aimed to assess air and noise pollution levels during Diwali celebrations.

The findings point to a remarkable achievement for Silchar, where the impact of fireworks on air quality was notably low this year.

Among the major cities grappling with severe air pollution, the country's capital, Delhi, has been particularly hard-hit.

The inability to breathe in many cities has raised alarms and spurred calls for stringent measures to curb pollution levels.

In contrast, Silchar's success in maintaining low pollution levels has garnered attention and praise.

A total of 10 places across India recorded the lowest AQI during Diwali which were recorded to be under 50. The 10 places are as follows:

Aizawl, Mizoram- 29.00

Silchar, Assam- 36.00

Ooty, Tamil Nadu- 36.00

Shillong, Meghalaya- 37.00
