GUWAHATI: Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma marked an impending milestone in the state's infrastructure by opening the Shraddhanjali Flyover in Guwahati.

The 2.2 km flyover, built at a cost of ₹316 crores, is expected to play a crucial role in easing traffic congestion and enhancing connectivity in the area.

In his speech, CM Sarma unveiled plans for various infrastructural projects in Guwahati. The construction of a new bridge connecting Guwahati and North Guwahati is set to be completed next year, he said.

The establishment of rotaries at Bhootnath and Machkhowa will enhance traffic management and efficiency in these localities by connecting with the Guwahati-North Guwahati flyover and bypassing Bharalumukh.

Moreover, a flyover connecting Noonmati and Dighalipukhuri is in the pipeline, with completion slated for 2026.

The construction of a flyover between Kalapahar and Barsapara is also on the cards. The flyover in the highway is also expected to be completed by 2024, the CM said.

The establishment of a flyover from ABC to Christian Basti will further bolster the city's infrastructure. Additionally, a new six-lane road from the Lokpriya Gopinath Bordoloi International Airport to Guwahati University will be constructed, Sarma said.

There will also be an elevated corridor and rotary near the Deepor Beel junction. A ₹300-crore investment will be dedicated to constructing roads within Guwahati, fostering better connectivity and ease of travel.

The Chief Minister has further set a target for ensuring water connections in every household in Guwahati by April 2024.

Moreover, it was also announced that the West Guwahati water supply scheme has been entrusted to Larsen and Toubro.

Additionally, a network of 2,000 CCTV cameras is set to be installed in Guwahati by August 2024, enhancing security and surveillance.
