Several Deaths Reported As JE, AES, Dengue Cases Rise In Guwahati

 

GUWAHATI: Guwahati is witnessing a troubling rise in  Japanese Encephalitis (JE), Acute Encephalitis Syndrome (AES), and dengue. The Gauhati Medical College Hospital (GMCH) is currently treating numerous patients affected by these diseases, with several fatalities reported.

The number of JE cases has reached 24, with six fatalities so far. Currently, 12 patients are receiving treatment for this disease at the GMCH. AES has also hit hard with 74 patients admitted and 14 deaths reported. Dengue cases are rising too, with 14 patients undergoing treatment and one death recorded. 


Talking to GPlus, Dr. Abhijit Sarma, Superintendent of GMCH, urged the public to take preventive measures. "People should use mosquito nets and repellents. Farmers should avoid going to paddy fields without proper clothing. Stagnant water, where mosquitoes breed, should be eliminated," he advised
