GUWAHATI: Senior Congress leader Bhubaneswar Kalita resigned from the party and also quit his Rajya Sabha membership to protest Congress's opposition to the scrapping of Article 370.

"My resignation has been accepted. I will not analyse the reasons now, maybe tomorrow or day after, I will explain," Bhubaneswar Kalita told news agency ANI when asked about his move.

Earlier today, Congress MPs Ghulam Nabi Azad, Anand Sharma, Ambika Soni and Bhubaneswar Kalita had submitted Adjournment Motion notice in Rajya Sabha, over the situation in Jammu and Kashmir.

Notably, on July 30, Sanjay Singh, another Congress Rajya Sabha MP from Assam, had resigned from the Congress and the Upper House to join BJP.

Singh mentioned that he is leaving Congress because leadership is zero in Congress.
