Senior Assistant In Assam's Goalpara Arrested For Bribery

GUWAHATI: A senior assistant from the office of the Joint Director of Health Services, Goalpara, was caught red-handed accepting a bribe of ₹10,000 by the Directorate of Vigilance and Anti-Corruption, Assam, on Saturday, January 18.

The accused, identified as Manoj Kumar Ghosh, had allegedly demanded ₹15,000 from a complainant to rectify the complainant's designation in the FinAssam portal. Refusing to pay the bribe, the complainant approached the Vigilance and Anti-Corruption Directorate, leading to the operation. 

A team from the Directorate set up a trap at the health office, where Ghosh was apprehended immediately after accepting ₹10,000 as part of the demanded bribe. The marked money was recovered from his possession in the presence of independent witnesses and seized as evidence. 

Upon finding sufficient proof, Ghosh was arrested, and a case was registered at the Anti-Corruption Bureau (ACB) Police Station under ACB P.S. Case No. 04/2025. The case has been filed under Section 7(a) of the Prevention of Corruption Act, 1988, as amended in 2018.
