The incident occurred on March 30, 2023, at a brick company in Muppliyam, where the victim’s family resided. Hussain, who is a cousin of Najma Khathoon, visited the family the previous night while concealing his animosity regarding a family dispute over property.

When Najma's husband, Baharul, and other workers left for their duties, Hussain first turned on Najma with a knife, inflicting severe injuries. Following the attack, he went for Najma’s child, who was nearby, killing him instantly.

Hussain attempted to flee the scene but was apprehended by the workers and handed over to the police. The Varantharappilly police conducted a thorough investigation and filed a chargesheet. Despite the defence claiming Hussain suffered from a mental illness, the prosecution presented compelling evidence proving his guilt.

The court rejected Hussain’s bail petitions, including appeals to the Kerala High Court.
