GUWAHATI: Section 144 of the Code of Criminal Procedure has been imposed on the area of Central Police District, Guwahati, thereby prohibiting the bursting of firecrackers.

As per the statement issued by Guwahati police, the use of Fireworks and bursting of crackers etc in the vicinity of Guwahati Refinery, Oil India Pumping Station, and the Oil pipelines within Central Police District, Guwahati may cause inflammation and fire as huge quantities of highly volatile and inflammable petroleum products are stored in Guwahati Refinery, Noonmati, Oil India Pumping Station.
Bursting of firecrackers has been prohibited within 500 meters radius from the Guwahati Refinery, Noonmati, Oil India Pumping Station, Satgaon and Oil Pipe lines within Central Police District, Guwahati.
Further, the use of fireworks and bursting of crackers is prohibited within Silence Zones of Central Police District, Guwahati.
Only the use of green firecrackers has been allowed in non-prohibited areas between 8 PM to 10 PM on Diwali. This order shall come into force with immediate effect. Any person contravening this order shall be punishable under section 188 of the Indian Penal Code.
