GUWAHATI: Assam CM Sarbananda Sonowal said that granting of ST status to six communities of the state would be finalized without disturbing the rights and privileges of the existing ST communities.
The communities which are to be accorded with the status are Koch Rajbongshi, Tai Ahom, Moran, Chutiya and the 36 tea tribes.

CM Sonowal mentioned that a Group of Ministers(GoM) along with the chairman of the committee and Assam Finance minister Himanta Biswa Sarma is supposed to lead the entire process.
Both the centre and state government had taken sincere steps for granting the ST status to six communities to safeguard the interests of the indigenous communities.
