GUWAHATI: The Supreme Court on Tuesday, July 16 refused to grant an urgent hearing on the petition filed by the Centre and the Assam government seeking an extension on the July 31 deadline for the completion of the National Register for Citizens (NRC).

A bench comprising of Chief Justice Ranjan Gogoi and Justices Deepak Gupta and Aniruddha Bose said that they will examine the petition.

Solicitor General Tushar Mehta presented the matter before the court stating that it would not be possible to complete the NRC by July 31.
