GUWAHATI: In what came as a relief to a woman from Assam serving a life sentence for the alleged murder of her husband, the Supreme Court acquitted her saying that circumstantial evidence did not lead to an inescapable conclusion that she had killed her husband.

A bench of Justices R F Nariman and Navin Sinha directed her immediate release on 31 October.

Based on the evidence that she was last seen with her husband before he died, the trial court and the Gauhati High Court threw the woman behind bars. Moreover, it was also stressed that she did not cry at the death of her husband.
