Sarbananda Sonowal seeks assistance from army

Chief Minister Sarbananda Sonowal said that the threat posed by the Jehadi elements to the security of Assam cannot be over looked. He further directed that the army should be deployed to construct physical barriers along the India-Bangladesh border to ensure quality of the work. Sonowal said that Central and the State Government is determined and committed on sealing the international borders with Bangladesh with best quality fencing. Emphasizing upon the fact that the Indian Army has constructed very good quality fencing along with the international border with Pakistan, particularly in Jammu and Kashmir, Sonowal requested the Central Government to entrust the Army with the responsibility of constructing quality fencing along the borders with Bangladesh. Commenting on the issue, Sonowal said, “I want to make it clear that we are not calling for replacement of the BSF with the Army to guard the border. We only want that the Army should be given the responsibility of constructing the physical barriers along the border so that it can be sealed properly.”
