Sanaullah released from Goalpara detention centre

GUWAHATI: Kargil war veteran Mohammad Sanaullah was released from Goalpara detention centre on June 8 after the Gauhati High Court ordered his release. 

Sanaullah was sent to the detention camp after a Foreigner Tribunal adjudged him a non-citizen.

He was allowed to go on interim bail by furnishing a bail bond of Rs 20,000 with two local sureties of the like amount.

Senior Supreme Court advocate Indira Jaisingh had appeared for Sanaullah before the Gauhati High Court.

Sanaullah and his entire family were declared foreigners by the Foreigners’ Tribunal, following which a team of North Guwahati police arrested him.

Sanaullah served the Indian Army for 30 years. He had also received the President’s Medal in 2014. Later, Sanaullah joined the Border Police in 2018. Sanaullah hails from Kolohi village in Chaygaon.
