GUWAHATI: Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma, on Monday, April 7, announced that financial assistance of ₹1.5 lakh has been sanctioned for each Bihu committee in the state, with disbursement expected within the next two to three days.

Addressing the media in New Delhi, the Chief Minister emphasised that this support aims to strengthen the state’s cultural celebrations. However, he clarified that no new applications will be accepted this time due to the enforcement of the model code of conduct ahead of the upcoming Panchayat elections.
He also shared other key updates from his visit to the capital, including a meeting with ISRO Chairman V. Narayanan to discuss the advancement of Assam’s satellite mission, which is aimed at enhancing disaster management, resource mapping, and connectivity in remote areas. Additionally, the Chief Minister provided progress updates on several major road infrastructure projects underway across the state.
The Panchayat elections in Assam will be conducted in two phases—Phase 1 on May 2 and Phase 2 on May 7. Counting of votes is scheduled for May 11.
