The Assam Information Commission (AIC) vide a recent order, imposed a penalty of Rs. 25,000 on the State Public Information Officer (SPIO) of GMC, for failing to provide required information pertaining to building permission records in an RTI second appeal case.
HS Das, the State Chief Information Commissioner, has also directed the Commissioner of GMC to retrieve or to re-construct the missing building permission records and furnish the same to the concerned appellant. The Commission has taken a serious note of the repeated complaints of unauthorised constructions in Guwahati city.
It may be noted that AIC receives a good number of RTI appeal and complaint petitions concerning building permissions granted by GMDA and GMC. In this connection, it has come to the notice of the State Chief Information Commissioner that such building permission records are often reported to be missing.
