Rs. 1250 Cr To Be Spent For New Terminal Building at Guwahati Airport

GUWAHATI: The civil aviation ministry has earmarked Rs 3500 crore for building infrastructure to expand air connectivity in the northeastern region.

Speaking to media, Executive director of AAI, North-East, Sanjeev Jindal said, "Rs 1250 crore would be spent to construct a new terminal building at Lokpriya Gopinath Bordoloi International Airport at Guwahati."

The new terminal is likely to be completed by 2020. It is to be mentioned that due to the availability of passengers, many international airlines are now showing interest to introduce flights in this region.

Among others, another Rs 500 crore would be spent to construct a new international terminal at the Maharaja Bir Bikram Airport, out of which Rs 484 crore would be spent for the new terminal building.

A new airport would also be built at Holangi in Arunachal Pradesh and a greenfield airport would be set up at Silchar in Assam in the coming years.

Jindal also added that three new water aerodromes would be constructed in Kaziranga, Guwahati and at Umrangso in Assam which will be used regularly by seaplanes or amphibious aircraft for landing and taking off.

Further, an amount of Rs 650 crore will be spent on infrastructure development of the Imphal airport.

It is to be mentioned that Adani Enterprises recently announced that it has incorporated a new company called Adani Guwahati International Airport Ltd. where it will carry out operations and maintenance-related activities of Lokpriya Gopinath Bordoloi International (LGBI) Airport.
