Robbery Victim Turns Out To Be Robber In Guwahati Chilli Attack Case, Arrested

 

GUWAHATI: The Guwahati Police has cracked the case of chilli-attack loot in the city, which turned out to be fake with the victim emerging as the robber. Anil Sharma had complained to the police that unidentfied miscreants had thrown chilli powder in his eyes and snatched over Rs 6 lakh near a Union Bank ATM at Fancy Bazar on Friday, April 4.

Speaking to GPlus, officials from Panbazaar Police Station said, "At around 3.15 pm we received a call about a case of robbery. A team of police officers from the Panbazaar and Fancy Bazaar outpost jointly cracked the case within 3 hours. Sharma, the victim, had tried to rob his employer's money with the help of an associate by faking the incident . We recovered the money-- ₹6.28 lakh - from his terrace. Sharma has been arrested and legal action  initiated against him and his associate."

Taking to X, the police quipped, "When the curry got too hot, the truth boiled over."
