GUWAHATI: The central government has allotted ₹213 crore for the rejuvenation of Guwahati’s Silsako Beel. This was revealed by Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma on Saturday, April 5.

“Following our efforts to remove encroachment, this vital wetland will now be further rejuvenated with central assistance of ₹213 cr,” Sarma posted on X.
According to the chief minister, the central assistance will come under the Pradhan Mantri Krishi Sinchayee Yojana (PMKSY) and will be used to address other issues of the Silsako Beel as well, following recent eviction drives aimed at clearing encroachments on the wetland.
The development has arrived after Sarma earlier held a meeting with Union Jal Shakti Minister C.R.Patil in New Delhi on March 25 to discuss the beel’s restoration, along with other Jal Jeevan Mission-related issues in Assam.
