GUWAHATI: The Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) has revised the Academic Curriculum for the 2020-21 due to loss of class room teaching and closure of schools.
The Board has decided to revise the syllabi for classes IX-XII for the academic session 2020-21 and changes made have been finalised by the respective Course Committees with the approval of the Curriculum Committee and Governing Body of the Board.
Among the topics recommended for deletion, there were questions being raised on the Civics topics in Social Science which could be omitted for students, such as Democracy and Diversity, Religion and Caste, Popular Struggles and Movements, and Challenges to Democracy.

Considering the importance of achieving the level of learning, the syllabus is said to have been ‘rationalised’ to the extent possible by retaining the core concepts, according to a circular dated 07 July, 2020, by Dr. Joseph Emmanuel, Director (Academics), Central Board of Secondary Education.

The reduced syllabus will not be part of the topics for Internal Assessment and year-end Board Examination despite which Heads of schools and teachers are asked to ensure that the topics that have been reduced are also explained to the students to the extent required to connect different topics.
