Accused rapist and self-claimed Godman Nithyananda, on August 22 released his own 'Reserve Bank of Kailasa'. He also released his own currency on the occasion, called the 'Kailashian Dollar.’

“Kailasa has signed a MoU with a country for the hosting of its Reserve Bank. The Reserve Bank of Kailasa is a legitimately incorporated body. Kailasa’s currencies will be used only in countries with which Kailasa has signed diplomatic ties,” stated a release uploaded on the Kailasa website.
Releasing eight denominations of the Kailashian Dollar, Nithyananda said that around 77 coins made of gold have been released.

In November 2019, Nityananda fled India, after failing to appear in over 50 court hearings. Soon after, he launched a new nation called 'Kailasa', reportedly on a small island off the coast of Ecuador. He had also appointed himself as the 'prime minister' of his own nation.

Kailasa has been claimed as a 'stateless nation' that does not seek new territory "but rather diplomatic recognition as the legitimate representative of the ideology of enlightened humanity," as stated in the website www.kailaasa.org.
