GUWAHATI: Rain provided Guwahatians some relief from the heat on Saturday, April 5, as the India Meteorological Department predicted light to moderate rainfall for Assam over the coming days, till April 10.

The weather office has also forecast a likely drop in maximum temperatures by 3 to 4 degrees Celsius for the state, along with the further rainfall.
An upper air cyclonic circulation has been noticed persisting over Northeast Assam and adjoining areas, up to 1.5 km above mean sea level, and it has been identified as a contributing weather system behind the ongoing activity.
Thunderstorm and lightning events have also been forecast at isolated places across the state. Gusty winds, with speeds reaching up to 40 to 50 kmph, and hailstorm activity are likely to occur on Saturday and Sunday.
Experts have suggested taking necessary precautions to tackle the upcoming changes in weather, and check the IMD’s website for further alerts.
