Rain Plays Spoilsport Over Durga Puja Preparations In Guwahati

GUWAHATI: With the city witnessing erratic rainfall over the past few days, the Durga Puja organising committees are facing a tough time to complete the construction of pandals on time ahead of the puja.

A large number of puja pandals are being built on various themes in different parts of the city. However, the organisers say that rainfall has wreaked havoc on their preparations.

Talking to G Plus, Prashant Bose of Bishnupur Durga Puja committee said, “The rainfall has definitely affected the pace of work and it has become slower. Earlier we were planning to finish the construction work by October 1, but now it will be delayed by a day.”

He added that their budget is Rs 35 lakhs and the pandal is being constructed using plywood and board which will be made open to the public from October 3 after the inauguration.

On the other hand, the meteorological department has predicted that moderate rains and thundershowers are likely to continue  at most places over Assam over the next few days.

Further, Ritumoni Saikia a member of the Geetanagar Sarbajanin Durga Puja Samiti said that even with the problems being faced due to the bad weather conditions, they would still have to finish the work before they intend to open the pandal for the public.

The organisers informed that are using ply board and bamboo for the pandal whereas the idols are being made of soil and clay.
